Every day in the world of digital marketing, new trends pop up and new consumer behaviours develop. Changes happen so rapidly that a marketing strategy you used today may be obsolete next month (or even next week!). Whether you’re the Chief Marketing Officer or Marketing Head, we’re sure this is one of the major challenges that your marketing team faces.
We live in a society where digital technology is embedded in almost everything we do. We are bombarded with countless ads and campaigns every day, and it’s definitely a struggle to keep up (business- and consumer-wise). Customers have grasped digital technology and owned it, taking charge of which content to consume and allowing them to actually generate their own — and that means an astounding amount of content for businesses to track, create, and enhance.
While it’s impossible to stay ahead of these changes daily because there’s lack of time, right resources, and so many meetings affecting other ones, businesses need to be on top of this. So how can a business survive (and actually thrive in) these continuous changes? Here are some tips on how you can keep up:
1. Share your knowledge.
You can’t know everything, but luckily, everyone has their own experiences, skills, and ideas and sharing these with each other compensates for what you don’t know. Connect with your fellow digital marketers inside and outside your company and exchange best practices to help broaden each other’s database of information and strategies. You can join associations such as IMMAP, or discuss digital marketing topics in LinkedIn groups and Reddit threads. After all, what is knowledge if it’s kept to oneself?
2. Attend certified training.
Attending training will give you access to several resources that help you gain more knowledge, improve your skills, and become more proactive. Take the necessary certification exams such as Google Garage, Facebook Blueprint, and Salesforce Marketing Cloud Consultant (if you want to be a digital marketing and tech unicorn!).
3. Read blogs.
If you want to read interesting insights and opinions on digital marketing, blogs may be a good place to look. Blogs talk about views on what’s in today and also possible trends in the future. Some blogs are also about what’s interesting and trending in social and mass media, such as the Moz Blog, Copyblogger, Social Media Examiner, and Mark Schaefer’s Grow blog.
4. Study dedicated articles.
Digital marketing articles can provide more data and hard facts. These articles contain more accurate information about the latest trends, strategies, and various tools and ideas according to studies and statistics.
5. Leverage social media.
All kinds of consumers use social media platforms. One of the best ways for you to learn about social media is to observe the actual platform and the users’ behaviours (including yourself). You can freely interact with your potential customers and know what new trends are rising.
With the constant changes in digital marketing, it’s essential to be ahead (or at least be in the same pace) for your company to maintain its credibility and relevance. But you’re not alone in this journey.
